An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar visits St Kevin’s Community College

We were delighted to welcome An Taoiseach, Leo Varadkar TD to St Kevin’s Community College on Thursday, November 7th 2019. Despite atrocious weather conditions, and an extremely busy schedule, Mr Varadkar took time out from dealing with national issues, Brexit and other European matters to visit us for the afternoon.

Mr Barry, Ms Hickey and representatives of the Students’ Council welcomed An Taoiseach and invited him to visit our newly opened autistic classroom, Class Neptune. Mr Varadkar unveiled a plaque in the classroom to commemorate his visit.

He was then introduced to students who had been awarded prizes for our Every School Day Counts art competition, encouraging students to have full attendance for the month of November. He took time to speak to the students and and admire their impressive art work and had a lengthy discussion with Ms Deirdre Dalton, our Home School Community Liaison teacher.

Following a visit to our JCSP library, where he got to meet our Gluais team with some of our 1st year students,  he visited our Garden of Remembrance where he laid a wreath in memory of members of our school community who we have lost over the past few years.

He ended his tour of the school by helping us to raise our Green Schools Flag which we were honoured to have received last year after the excellent hard work of many of our 6th year students, ably assisted by Ms Waldron, Mr Darmody & Ms Carty.

The students gave him an excellent send off following a number of waves from An Taoiseach to all those waiting, sheltered out of the rain.

Thank you to every single person who worked hard to ensure the school was looking its best and helped to prepare in any small way for the smooth running of the event.
